This research starts from the condition where someone is sometimes given favors by Allah SWT as a test which can plunge them into greater offenses and receive a heavier punishment which is called istidraj. A materialistic view that prioritizes material aspects over the spiritual can be related to istidraj, because this view often ignores the relationship with God and matters of the afterlife. They are too focused on the material world, without realizing that in this material luxury there is doom that is slowly approaching. This research aims to examine more deeply about istidraj and the impact of istidraj by referring to the view of Ṭabāṭābā'ī, in whose view istidraj only applies to unbelievers, while for believers it is a form of test from Allah. The method used in this research is character thematic and uses explanatory analysis techniques in analyzing the data. The conclusion of this study shows that Ṭabāṭābā’ī’s interpretation of istidraj refers to the process by which Allah gradually punishes the unbelievers without their awareness, leading them to a slow-coming destruction. Excessive attachment and focus on the material world leads to gradual destruction, both personally and socially. Therefore, it is important to maintain a balance between material needs and spiritual values in order to avoid istidraj. To avoid it, we can improve our understanding of spiritual values in everyday life. Keywords: Istidraj, Tafsīr Al-Mīzān, Ṭabāṭābā’ī
