Abstract

This basic Arabic language training activity for orphans and the poor is designed to improve basic Arabic language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This program aims to provide good access to Arabic language teaching for students with financial limitations, while increasing their confidence and willingness to learn a foreign language. The implementation of this activity is in the form of intensive learning for 24 meetings which are carried out for approximately three months, from August to October. The number of children who take the basic Arabic language class is 14 children with different class levels. The activity was carried out at the Annajm Generasi Bintang orphanage foundation, Ciputat, South Tangerang. This foundation is a foundation engaged in the social sector, where this foundation accommodates several orphans and underprivileged children to then be schooled and fostered with useful activities in the foundation's dormitory. The methods used in this training are interactive and contextual methods, such as educational games, basic dialogues, and the use of audio resources to help understanding. Topics discussed include the introduction of the hijaiyah letters, basic language, and everyday expressions that are appropriate to the needs of children both at school and in the dormitory. The learning process is carried out in stages in a fun environment to stimulate active participation of students. The results of this training show that most students have improved their basic understanding of Arabic and can use simple terminology in everyday interactions. Furthermore, this training increases the confidence of orphans and the poor in learning a new language. This activity is expected to be a learning model for other locations, ensuring that children with limited economies have equal access to Arabic language education
